Description

Abstract

The challenge for school management in Taiwan is to provide quality education and to promote the development of global competencies necessary for each student. Nevertheless, the investigation of using scientific method for school leaders promoting greater efficiency and echoing to global trend is still on the way. The objective of this research is to analyze how the elementary school principle candidates attribute of future professional development and the concepts on related issues or skills via survey. Statistical Analysis has been used to provide solutions to complex problems in such diverse areas as gender, working experience, and education in data sets of variables and other areas of interest. Questionnaires with 5 points of Likert Scale for 269 principle candidates were applied to t-test and ANOVA statistical analysis. Results indicated that 7 elements of school management concern the respondents the most (mean >4.23): 1. inspiring the staff; 2. nurturing students’ core/key competencies; 3. strengthening teachers’ professional development; 4. extending digital learning opportunities; 5. shaping school specialty; 6. exploring students’ global vision; 7. focusing more on disadvantaged families/groups. However, there is one element, school choice, not much relevant to the respondents’ concern (mean < 4.0), which implies marketization is not an issue for now from the perspective of school leaders.
