The Seattle Pacific University community gathers each fall to celebrate the beginning of a new school year by recognizing new faculty and joining in a litany of commitment. Through 2012, this service was called Opening Convocation and included a faculty processional and an address typically given by the current SPU president. In 2013, SPU changed the title to Opening Chapel. While the order of service changed very little, a faculty member now gives the address and there is no faculty processional.
