The Quietest Painting in the Room
Caravaggio, Michelangelo, St. Matthew, Rome, Sistine Chapel
This essay reads the gestures in Caravaggio's painting The Calling of St. Matthew as referencing Michelangelo's painting on the Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Both are about being created, in a sense, in the same moment one is called.
