The day began on Wednesday, October 18, with our public keynote address, by Dr. Soong-Chan Rah.

In the afternoon, the Center for Scholarship and Faculty Development hosted two concurrent 50 minute sessions of forums, seminars, and panel presentations, led by faculty, staff, students and community members. All sessions were offered twice, from 1 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.

In the late afternoon, following a talk-balk session with Dr. Soong-Chan Rah, was a film screening. “Under the Bridge” explores the criminalization of homelessness in Indianapolis with a focus on tent encampments. Tent cities are emerging in many cities across the country in response to the rising numbers of people who are homeless. Homelessness presents new policy challenges for cities as well as new opportunities for community and collaboration. After the film screening, Maurice Young, a homeless activist portrayed in the film, shared and answered questions about addressing homelessness.
