Description

We determined the age of female harvested Columbian black-tailed deer (Odocoileus hemionus columbianus) on Blakely Island using cementum annuli present on the lower first molar. Using the determined ages, we compared the age of death for harvested and non-harvested females to determine if hunters are selecting for older deer because of size selectivity. We also compared the sex ratio of harvest deer to determine if hunters were exhibiting sex selectivity.
