Abstract
The process of European integration, the expansion of the EU further east leads to the creation of common educational and scientific space that needs common standards and criteria. This process has two stages: formation of the European universities` collaboration according to the Great Charter of Universities and integration of national education and research systems into the Area of European Higher Education. Maximal compatibility of the higher education systems is one of the prominent needs in the era of globalization. It leads to the benefits of cultural diversity, improves the quality of education, encourages students` mobility and provides the youth with universally accepted qualifications. These are the priorities of the modern competitive university in Ukraine.
