Abstract
The following article outlines and explains why the use of vocabulary, academic language, and comprehension skills has a profound impact on the literacy skills of English Learners (ELs). This topic is timely and of interest to practitioners since ELs tend to have lower literacy rates than mainstream students. At present, current research on ELs has increased the breadth and depth of effective practices that when implemented with precision and in a timely manner have a significant effect on the literacy academic literacy outcomes of ELs.
