Description
While we spend much of our adult lives in situations of increasing stress and pressure, much of our focus is often on handling or repressing stress without thinking about the purpose behind our actions. The purpose of this study is to understand what strategies individuals can use to increase emotional self-regulation (EMSR) in high pressure situations. Specifically, our findings indicate that identifying a sense of purpose in pressure filled moments may lead to focusing on the potential of the situation, which in turn results in increased EMSR. Additionally, these strategies are more impactful for individuals who take things personally.
