Description
Wilderness therapy is an unconventional and alternative option to traditional outpatient therapies. Attitudes towards mental health services have shown to be a barrier to the efficacy of traditional practices which lead families seeking more options (Tucker et al., 2016). Wilderness Therapy, however, is not widely acknowledged or known about. It is generally not reimbursed by insurance and therefore its availability to families is greatly limited. Research has shown wilderness therapy as an effective intervention that has successfully aided in changes both individuals and families sought help for. It is important to seek ways to make this option more widely available.
