Description
COVID-19 has introduced new challenges, and some positive outcomes, for families. Due to the significant role parents play in their children’s development, we sought to further understand parental experiences during COVID-19 through a qualitative lens. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with parents (N=20; Mage=38.25, SD=7.77; Female 80%; White 80%) and analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. Articulated themes and subthemes include experiences as a parent (subthemes: negative experiences, positive experiences, and sources of social support), stressors impacting parenting, concerns for children, and changes in children’s daily lives. Findings may inform future targeted support encouraging healthy youth development through parental support.
