Abstract

Universal history, an attempt to cover all times and places with a written work, is often a response to attempts at world domination, to describe either what has been conquered or what remains independent. In this lecture, Dr. Ewald will discuss several ancient examples — including Greek, Roman, Jewish, and Chinese historians — which can provide modern people with insights for how and how not to attempt to write universal history.
