Description

College students commonly experience maternal helicopter parenting (MHP) and maternal co-rumination. Helicopter parenting has been linked with difficulties in emotionregulation. Additionally, MHP has been linked with maladjustment when college students live at home. Our study examined living arrangements, frequency and amount of contact with mothers, and MHP as predictors of co-rumination. Ongoing data collection from 204 undergraduate students found MHP predicted mother and adolescent led co-rumination. The context a college student experienced MHP also predicted adolescent led co-rumination. Results suggest that emerging adults who experience MHP may use both adolescent and mother led co-rumination, which could contribute to emotion-regulation difficulties.
